Well, played this game for the first time today. Still more or less neutral on this. I mean, I am not sure if the reason I enjoyed playing this was because I somehow thought I was suppose to.

I mean, it was somewhat fun. Not: "OMG! Awesome, I am going to sell my soul to Nintendo for creating this game!" fun, like so many people seem to have suggested. Besides, that title goes to Earthbound and Mother 3 anyways ~.^

I dunno, maybe as I play more, it will get more obvious, why I should want to have Super Metroid's babies.. or something...

I LOVE that game, but it's one of those titles that needs to grow on you. I liked it on my first playthrough, but I loved it on the second.
There must be certain game genres you flat out don't like, if you don't think SM is awesome.
@EarthboundX and what game genres would you suggest those be?
I'm actually not sure what genre Super Metroid would be in, Side Scroller shooter? You're literally the first people I've heard say they didn't love Super Metroid.
Well, I didn't love it the first time I played it. I was also 10 years old and parts of it scared the shit out of me. But I love the game now.

As for genre, it falls into the Metroidvania sub-genre. Or maybe it's more of a hybrid genre. All I know is that it is hard to nail down genre wise because it incorporates elements from platformers, shooters, and RPGs. Other games that fall under the "Metroidvania" umbrella are the other 2D metroid games, most of the 2D Castlevania games from Symphony of the Night on, and Shadow Complex.
I love the way that progressing through the game just feels so natural. You see things that you can't do or get to early on and as you progress you find the tools and such to get past each obstacle which opens up new things to overcome. The general feel to the game is great too. The mood just seems to fit the whole alone on an alien planet feel. I especially love the derelict ship portion :3 Don't wanna say too much and spoil anything tho :3
@mnightwind yeah... cannot even get to that part... there is an update, where it will not even let me go any further >.>
